Comments Policy

“Anonymous comments? You’re not in the arena, man. If you can’t say it to me in person in front of my kids, don’t say it.” – Brene Brown

We recognize that gender politics is sometimes a sensitive subject, and therefore our purpose is to engage in meaningful, respectful conversation about issues faced by women and girls in our city and beyond.

While we encourage our friends and followers to share their thoughts and opinions on our social media and blog profiles, we expect that this will be done in a respectful manner.

The Women’s Initiative Edmonton does not agree with or endorse every comment that individuals post on our profiles. Our goal is to share ideas, stories, experiences, research, and resources, and we welcome conversation. It is our policy to accept the majority of comments made to our profiles in the interest of transparent discussion, awareness-raising and education.

However, we will only engage in discussion that is fair and respectful.

A comment or image will be deleted if it contains:

  • Hate speech
  • Racism, Islamophobia, or Homophobia
  • Profanity, obscenity or vulgarity
  • Nudity
  • Defamation to a person or people
  • Name calling and/or personal attacks
  • Comments where the main purpose is to sell a product
  • Threats
  • Other comments that the Women’s Initiative Edmonton team deems inappropriate

If commenters consistently disrupt, distract or co-opt threads on this page with anti-female rhetoric, we may block them.

All links posted as comments on our posts will be reviewed and may be deleted.

Threatening language will be taken seriously, recorded and brought forward to City of Edmonton security and the Edmonton police department.

Abuse of this Women’s Initiative Comments Policy may cause the author to be blocked from the Women’s Initiative profiles.
